My unwashed hair and messy room are so not blogworthy right now, I apologize... but I figured with the rainbow it is. You'll be happy to know that I recently won my very first (of probably many) Ebay bid consisting of a battle between me and some other dude which I thought was quite exhilarating. I am so competitive! Thankfully I prevailed... the new app combined with my madd skills make for a winning team so now I have a $6 wireless camera remote coming my way. Oh the opportunities that will come about without having to run back and forth to press the shutter! Inside, outside, whatever (as long as I'm in direct line-of-sight and only 16ft away, supposedly haha). I love how Calgary weather is just so unpredictable: this morning the trees were frosted with white stuff then by the time I got out of lectures Mr. Sunshine had made it all go away. Time to pull out the sunnies! I've decided to give my Ray Ban's a longer spring break before I use the shit out of them again this summer, so these cat-eyes substitute for the classic wayfarer silhouette perfectly (purrfectly?). To be honest I never thought I'd be able to rock such frames but I'm in love and apparently all of Alexander Wang and Linda Farrow's wannabe friends are too this season... so I bought 2 pairs. One for me and one for... you?

Have I ever told you guys that I still don't do my own laundry? Well it's partly true, but mostly embarrassing. Anyways, my mom has been gone in the Philippines for almost 2 weeks now and so I decided I would hand-wash some of my shit myself... you know, just to be safe with the ones that are a little bit more on the delicate side which happen to be most of my Wilfred tops. Like, for example: this light blue silk button-up. I washed it along with this other hot pink pocket tank... and they soaked together in the sink for a good hour before I checked back on them. Funny because I should know better, especially since I tell people all the time that our test colors bleed, blah, blah. My initial reaction was to tell myself you're an idiot, but now that I look at it a little more... with the light shining thru it... I find it rather dreamy. I like to laugh at my mistakes and I'm totally still gunna wear it.

PS. This news is a dream come true!

I just recently realized that I had stopped wearing earrings for the past couple of Fall months. Strange. I've since taken a complete u-turn and been on the constant lookout for things to adorn my little ears and have even decided that I actually want more holes in them... yikes. Sorry mom. Anyways, I'll just show you this pair for now; I bought these fat, silver pellets to wear everyday and to basically just act as fillers. Meaning, I'll just wear one in the left since I'm totally into this whole 'wearing one long earring and having my hair behind my right ear' thing. Don't know where I picked that up from but it's dangling on with me for sure throughout this Spring.

PS. Who knows how to do palm readings? I used my macro lens to take the photos of these little guys and they brought out every little line!

Boyfriend and I went thrift shopping a couple of weeks ago and for once we both came out with some dope, new but previously loved stuff. He gripped a denim jacket for under $10, while I left the place with a much-needed necklace stand (I'm sick of untangling shit), an oversized sweater and to top it all off: these time pieces. They were all squished into the tiniest little Ziploc bag as a set and locked up in the glass display case right by the cashiers, which to me seemed kind of unnecessary at first because they're definitely all broken and and no longer ticking anyways. But then I thought, another persons junk is another persons treasure remember? And besides they all technically got it right at most two times a day and that's good enough for me.

Post-Olympic Depression

The 2nd best thing about this short trip was that even though it was work-related (and expenses paid), it totally didn't feel like it. Funny cause I just got my cheque from the last pay period and it surprised me because I had expected it to be way lower as if I had taken a vacation over Reading Week but duh, I still managed to kick in a good 30hrs while I was there. Besides being able to go out in the Village before or after our shifts, we were also all given a full day off to spend at our leisure - with the exception of working around the scheduled time in our itinerary for attending an Olympic Event. Everyone that got sent out were given tickets to see one (Thank you BH!), depending on what was happening around the time of your waves. I got to go see the Ladies Alpine Downhill skiing, which was a Medal Event happening at Whistler's own Creekside hills:

Having been open for only a couple of years now, both the Aritzia and TNA stores in Whistler couldn't have had better timing to make it big with the Olympics bringing in people from all over the world (see next post) to it's tiny town. You actually have to keep an eye out for them, since they're tucked away in the middle of souvenir shops and I'm not gunna lie... even I missed them my first time around the village, walked right past them and got lost. With that being said, foot traffic isn't even close to being as crazy as what we were all used to from back home (especially for the TO girls), and even though we were all incredibly excited to be sent out to help run the store, we all joked around about how they were doing it to give us a break, haha. True or not, it was certainly refreshing to be out of a mall for once and I especially loved the idea of literally being able take a breath of fresh air while running across the street from store to store to grab a size or say what's up. I also fell in love with the whole Whistler mentality that they have going on there: think chill and down for anything, which I was able to feed off of straight from the local girls* there and decided to take home with me. Let's see how well that works out back here in the city, shall we?

A Belated February 14th

To be honest though, the Boyfriend and I really aren't that big into this "holiday" so I don't really know why I got all dressed up for the occasion sporting light pink and hearts but oh well. I guess I can re-use the tights on Halloween and tell everybody that they're little black bats? No presents were involved but with it landing on a Sunday this year, we were able to hang out together as if it were any other one (which it is, technically to us anti-valentines) - with the exception that I had to be taken to the airport for my 4AM flight out the same night. Time is always valuable though and should be well-spent regardless, especially with your loved ones, no? So we had more than enough hours to do dinner at Joey's, meet up with another couple to double date the rest of the night, and drive all the way down to Nectar without even thinking about making reservations... at a dessert house... on Valentine's Day. Oops! Who's genius idea was that? =/ It was totally mine. Obviously, they had no room for the four of us last minute lovers, so as when all else fails, just call it a movie night... The Book of Eli managed to allot itself perfectly and end in time for me to sneak in 3hrs of sleep beside my sweetheart, then it was off to be dropped off at Domestic Departures. Hope you all enjoyed yours too, whether planned or impromptu like ours. ♥

Okay, I confess. They are so much more to me than just numbers. I've been so damn stressed, emotional and confused lately, and what it really comes down to is just having them all to talk to on the Floor and to discuss life's adventures & opportunities with. Because in reality, although sometimes even I forget, I'm still one of the babies and I really do need their advice, support, guidance - ANYTHING, especially when the people that I should be getting it from the most just don't understand. Gosh, I'm pretty sure that they've all seen me cry my eyes out at the store throughout the years (and maybe at a recent shift)... c'mon Diaz! This is what I wore the other day with my new pair of light gray, silk, high-waisted trousers that can double up and go undercover as pajama pants... the transition from work to play (er, sleep) has never been easier. At 50% off, I don't mind taking them to the drycleaners every once in a while after waking up in them wrinkled, haha. We actually just finished moving a pile of 10+ garbage bags full of old clothes that we're either sending to the Philippines or donating here locally - which ultimately makes me feel good - but also now gives me a blank wall to take full photos in front of. Should make use of it soon... or maybe not. For now I hope you're satisfied with a third of me and only a description of said pants. Moving on, tonight I have the worst migraine ever which seems to be a 2-day permanent thing even despite taking the maximum amount of Advil's allowed within these 48hrs, so I'm staying in and cuddling with myself. If that's not going to cure it then I don't know what I'm doing wrong...

Somebody call the press, because the lady of the household has finally decided to join us to go see a movie in theatres. I could be wrong, but the last time that I clearly remember my mother coming down to for the popcorn and uncomfortable seats was to go watch Disney's Mulan. MULAN! =/ Unsurprisingly, it would of course be Avatar in IMAX 3D that would finally bring her back, along with my dad, Lil' Bro and myself (who unlike her, were all going for our seconds). I think the cinema is the only way to really gain scope of the extravagance and beauty of the film - so I was looking forward to picking up all the little details I missed first time around. So there you have it, our Sunday was spent contributing four more ticket stubs to add to the 2 billion dollars in global ticket sales. You're welcome, James.

...how nutty, Winter is going by just as quick as it came. Perhaps because I've been keeping myself steadily busy so far this semester, with a full load of 5 courses (which I had yet to do in my post-secondary career)... I'm really cracking down on myself. I need to. I need this. I've been finding great pride & satisfaction in making to-do lists in my moleskine and checking off each and every little box at the end of the night. It's a dope feeling and in all honesty, I do get to sleep with my chest feeling a little lighter. Then I wake up to do it all over again.

As a result, blogging is being taken to a minimum and I'm trying to stick to this whole one-post-a-day approach to it... which unsurprisingly opens up a whole new window of time in my life to focus on other things like geology, business law, statistics, accounting and evolutionary anthropology... awesome. It's just so crazy how obsessed I was before, and now that I've finally found an overall look and feel that reflects what I want this blog to be... I'm happy with where this is slowly but successfully going. So holla to my new followers, those who have been commenting, and of course the girls at work who have all just found out about this thing. Speaking of which! Watch out for a sick collaboration between yours truly and my homegirl Hayley, which will make its debut on here shortly.

Our Dog Sled Adventure

As some of you may know, my boyfriend and I celebrated our 4yrs together recently and we did something a little different this year. It's true that after each year that passes, celebrations like this require a little bit more thought and to be honest, I really didn't think anything could top last years anniversary. But I was wrong, and we continue to amaze me every day. Exactly one month ago from today, we decided to take advantage of the beautiful country that we live in and witnessed in all it's glory, the breathtaking sights found only about an hour away from us.

We ventured out at six in the morning to the tiny town of Canmore, AB and managed to grip some McDonald's and see the sunrise on the way. We ended up getting there madd early, and actually had time to squeeze in a nap in the car right outside of the Snowy Owl Dog Tours office before our 11AM booking...

The headquarters where we all had to meet up at was packed with interesting paraphernalia and managing to snap these pictures while waiting, only made me more interested and curious. They provided us with these huge ginormous Sorel's and once we were all prepped and ready to go, they stuffed us all into their van which would uncomfortably but ultimately take us to our destination. The puppies were waiting for us. They say that as soon as you step foot onto the snow, if they can (and they need to) sense the enthusiasm in you, they'll be just as excited for the run as you are.

A quick introduction was given to us by their guides and it was at this point where we learned about the dog sledding tradition as well as the appropriate terminology to use. Did I mention we got to actually drive the sleds ourselves? Listen carefully, eh?

"Hike up!" To get your dogs to go.
"Easy puppies!" To slow your dogs down.
"Whoa puppies!" To stop your dogs.

Actually it was slightly difficult listening to the briefing because the puppies were just so frikken' cute I couldn't help but pay attention to them, obviously. Thankfully, we were given a good amount of time to get acquainted with our team which was when most of this next batch of pictures were taken. I lost all composure at this point and was seriously saying "Oh my gosh" and the likes non-stop but in my defense, these animals are beautiful, one-of-a-kind creatures. See for yourselves:

Snowy Owl Dog Tours is home to an amazing 170 puppies and it's obvious that their four-legged family live on love. They are the most dedicated animals and will work so hard for you if all you do is show them that you care for each and every one of them. You're totally not supposed to have favorites but that brown-nosed one was mine.

Positive reinforcement for them come in a variety of ways like through the constant cuddling, shouting "Good job puppies!" over and over again, and even by stepping off the sled to help take your weight off for them while going uphill (if you don't help them out, they look back at you until you do, haha). Like I said, they are fueled by your support.

Look at the drive and focus in that middle guy! He was our wheel dog (back right) so he carried most of the weight of the sled.

Once it was all over, we gathered around a warm, cozy fire where hot apple cider and their famous "mystery cookies" were waiting for us. I'm sure this post is getting long enough already as it is... so I'll leave with the suggestion to my Canadian readers to take advantage of the good side of Winter which we often forget that we are blessed with. Definitely an experience that I'll always remember.

The evolution of the "lookbook":
To showcase Sophomore's S/S2010 collection, designer Chrissie Miller has stepped into a whole different world of media and has created this ten-minute film, shot by LA-based photographer and frequent collaborator, Cass Bird. THE END RESULT IS LIKE NO OTHER.

Miller is a native New Yorker and appropriately, the film is set in New York's legendary hang-out Coney Island. It's there, in the summer dens of the New York kids who didn't have the money for the Hamptons, that a cast of Miller's friends, shot documentary style, tell stories about their lives past and present. They flirt, flick cigarettes and muse about their first kisses and first arrests, on the inevitably romantic boardwalk.

Inspired by a 90s documentary about the tough broads of Wildwood New Jersey (long before the days of Snooki and JWow, but with a similar kindred energy), the film captures the nostalgia and the insatiable mythologizing of fleeting teenage moments. "It reminds us what it's like to be that age and how that period of life shapes who you are," says Chrissie, who herself makes a brief appearance on film during a smooch session with boyfriend Leo Fitzpatrick.

"Sophomore as a brand is really about being comfortable and being honest. And being OK with who you are, living on the edge," said Cass after the showing. "And Coney Island is on the chipping block right now and you can see the expiration on sight. That's what youth is really all about. It ends really quickly."

I was never really one to wear anything on my lips, unless it was that red gunk that we all had to buy in the exact same shade, and in which I was forcibly told to pout for during dance competitions as a kid... other than that though, I have been perfectly fine with having nothing on them. I always found it unnecessarily annoying having your hair blow in the wind only to have a strand or two get stuck on your just-applied glossied lips. But anyways, nothing is ever set in stone and I am a growing, mature twenty-nothing so once I found NARS' Barbarella (which is the perfect combination of a matte, Princess Peach-y, pink color) I've since rekindled my love/hate relationship with the stuff, but with a little bit more love this time. Muuuuaaaaaah! xoxo.

Brought home these three beauties last Monday and they've been on my fingers since. Seeing as how they were obviously created in the image of the incredibly coveted Yves Saint Laurent Arty Rings (or so I'd like to think), I thoughtfully photographed them atop Stefano Pilati's pages in my "100 Contemporary Fashion Designers" Taschen. Sure, they may not be the real deal but for like... 1/10th of the price, they dutifully attract the attention of my colleagues while my hands flail around writing notes and manage to catch some stares from customers while I ring them thru at till.

New year, new gear. A little late to make it's debut on here, but the Boyfriend got me a dope Christmas present that ya'll will appreciate: a refurbished Polaroid camera! Just when the world had started to lose hope in instant photography and right as Poladroid-ing was actually starting to become a verb in my vocabulary – he comes and assures me that all is not lost by gifting me with my very own old-school, legit Spectra 1200 FF. But what good is the camera, without the appropriate film, right? We all witnessed the near-extinction of its production entirely, but thankfully now it's just limited, but expensive, which as we all know come hand in hand. Basic economics. I have a total of 50 shots and have thus far only used three. Obviously, I'm being very picky with who/what gets one: "Hey, take one of my huge red zit!" Gross, Lil Bro. Expect to see more exclusive and meaningful shots from my new toy in the near future.

I know I'm not alone when I confess that I absolutely ~~love~~ no, NEED TO have my Sundays off. Was a lucky ducky this week and landed the whole weekend off, but that happens once in a blue Aritzia moon. Sundays are necessary to either a) post-wrap up the week by sleeping in, actually making breakfast for once, catching up on tv shows, etc. or to b) prepare for the week ahead and be productive. Every week it's a vicious cycle. Today I did the first option, and that's okay. I remember someone once asked why it is that Friday always seem so far from Monday, but Friday so close to Monday and although this is a riddle that we can literally answer, we can't ignore the reality of it whether your life consists of school, work or play. Speaking of which, I along with thousands of other University students head back to school tomorrow to begin our Winter 2010 semester. At least I'll look cute for the first day of classes; pictures of this weekend's new hurr are from the Boyfriend's laptop which I am a little embarrassed at how vainly obsessed I am with it. Though now it's due time for bed, and I should really log off everything (Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, Photobucket, Blogger... in that order) I'm just really in no rush to head upstairs to an empty one.

I've been a bad girl. So I guess I took a slightly longer break than I expected. Good girl gone. Poof! Gone where? Nowhere; but that was totally uncalled for, I know. Well I have been filling my few days off with food, love, and sleep and it has been a relatively wonderful staycation (I hate this word but it's true). Over the holidays my sister graduated, Raymond and I celebrated our 4 years, I successfully operated and rocked the Cash Desk, got my fringe back and may have figured out my major. And for everything else in between, there's Twitter. LOL. But let's face it, you've missed me and I've missed you. Here's to plenty more to blog about in 2010... Let's go be good, shall we?

Which camera do you use for your photos?
A Canon Rebel XSi w/ the 18-55mm lens. This summer my dad actually bought me a wide angle/macro lens that I often use in some of my photos too (the ones that have the fisheye effect). I've had this camera for about half a year now - but I would really still love to take a class or something to get better. Practice makes perfect, no?

Where are you going to school?
I'm currently in the Communications program at the UofC - hopefully switching to the Haskayne School of Business for Fall 2010. However, I have no idea what I want to do once I'm in there.

What do you do at your job?
I'm a part-time Floor Manager at Aritzia and I love it. We've been together just as long as my boyfriend and I have been together (see next answer)! I apologize in advance because I talk about my work a lot, but that's because I'm passionate about what I do for the company and what the company does for me.
